The concept for these skate decks for Lahaina Skate Co. was the cast of characters that are encountered while skating in Lahaina, Maui. This was the first in the series. Officer Hodgens is an infamous traffic cop in Lahaina. His vehicle is, in the eyes of Lahaina residents, synonymous with his persona. I had to get his permission of course to create the art. He was very gracious and allowed me to take the source photos I needed to create the vector illustrations.
The second in the Lahaina Skate Co. series, Keith and his parrot Rascal. Keith worked and lived at the Salvation Army. Rascal was all but featherless on his body. The result of a nervous disorder common when the birds are not allowed to mate. Rascal was a very ill tempered bird for obvious reasons. I recall seeing Keith riding his bike down Front Street arguing with Rascal on several occasions. I love that life has presented me such an amazing cast to integrate into my art.
